•CHD
is a condition in which vascular supply to the heart is impeded by a trauma,
thrombosis or spasm of coronary arteries.
•This
impairs the supply of oxygenated blood to cardiac tissue causing myocardial ischaemia which if severe or
prolonged may cause the death
of cardiac muscles (myocardial infarction).
•Myocardial
ischemia can also arise if oxygen demand is ↑ such as in severe ventricular
hypertrophy (due to hypertension) or iron deficiency anemia (because of
decreased capacity of blood to carry oxygen).
